Signalling of Western Region trains into Smithfield Depot

-

(a) In order to avoid delay to the trains at Aldersgate, the Western Region Shunter must be in the Box a few minutes before an Up train is due, in readiness to accept the train as soon as the Line is clear into the Depot.

(b) When satisfied that the Western Region train has arrived into Aldersgate Platform clear of Signal OG8, as indicated by his illuminated diagram, the Farringdon Signalman will call the attention of the Western Region Shunter at Smithfield by giving the prescribed Signal (3, pause, 2) on the Train Bell.

If the Line is clear for the train to enter the Depot, ie track ET4A is clear, the Western Region Shunter must, after operating the release plunger for Signal OG8, repeat the bell signal and stand by in readiness to accept the train into the Depot.

When the whole of the train has passed clear of track ET4A and is inside Signal OG7, the Western Region Shunter will then operate the backlock release plunger for Signal OG8 to release the route locking on this Signal.

If the Line is not clear for the train to enter the Depot, the Western Region Shunter, on receiving the bell signal (3, pause, 2) will give the Obstruction Danger Signal (6 beats). When the Western Region Shunter is able to accept the train, he must give the Obstruction Removed Signal (2, pause, 1) and the Signalman at Farringdon will again offer the train in accordance with the first paragraph of this clause ( b).
