Nottingham station fire: woman arrested

-

A 34-year-old woman has been charged with deliberately causing a significant fire that closed Nottingham railway station.

It took more than 60 firefighters from eight different fire stations approximately 12 hours to extinguish the blaze in the Grade 2-listed building, after it broke out in toilets at 0620 on January 12 2018 ( RAIL 845).

Gemma Peat, of Nottingham, was rearrested in Derby on January 25 on suspicion of arson with intent or being reckless to endanger life. She was remanded in custody to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on February 26.

More than £1 million worth of damage was caused by the fire, although no injuries were reported.

Staff from Network Rail and station operator East Midlands Trains worked around the clock to reopen the station - used by some 7.5 million passengers a year - within 24 hours.
