Constraints at Sheffield
During Christian Wolmar’s visit to Sheffield ( RAIL 865), he must have noticed that many of the people at Sheffield station have no wish to be there. They will have endured a ride passing the backs of houses and industrial buildings for ten minutes or so from Dore, have a nice wait (in the train from Nottingham or on the platform from Derby), and then another trip back to Dore before they resume their journey to Manchester or Liverpool.
I am not joining the cries for the reinstatement of the line through Bakewell - that is pie in the sky. But I do wish for a Derby to Manchester (same platform changes as Chesterfield to Nottingham customers) via Dore south curve.
I realise the constraints in the Hope Valley, but wonder who prioritised the Derby upgrade, where delays were minimal against the upgrade at Dore and onwards to Edale. Pat and Dennis Sumpter, Derbyshire
