Regarding the Devon sea wall ( RAIL 868): there is all this talk about what line/s could be reopened inland, to divert trains in the event of bad weather along the coast.

But there is nothing about something that could cost a fraction of the cost of rebuilding old lines, which is building a breakwater off shore to dissipate the force of the waves before it reaches the shore.

It seems that everyone wants the most expensive and complicate­d way of doing things, rather than looking at a simpler, cheaper option. Chris Small, West Sussex
