Three shortlisted for Curzon Street construction
Three bidders have been shortlisted to build the £570 million Birmingham Curzon Street HS2 terminus.
BAM Ferrovial (a joint venture of BAM Nuttall Ltd and Ferrovial Construction (UK) Limited), Laing O’Rourke Construction Ltd, and Mace Dragados (a joint venture of Mace Limited and Dragados S.A. UK Branch) will compete for the right to build the station.
Work is due to start in 2022 after it became the first station to receive planning permission ( RAIL 904). The station is due to open in line with the delivery of Phase 1 of HS2 (2029-33).
The Two Stage Design and Build contract involves the winning bidder working with HS2 Ltd to develop detailed design and construction of the station. Contracts are expected to be awarded next year.
“Birmingham Curzon Street is absolutely at the heart of the HS2 project and will help transform the city and the economy of the wider region,” said HS2 Ltd Procurement and Commercial Director David Poole.
As well as up to nine high-speed trains per hour, the station will also ofer access to the Midland Metro which will run alongside and underneath it. There will also be pedestrian routes to local buses.
Demolitions and ground investigations are currently taking place at the site, and utility diversions are due to start.
