Newhaven Freight Terminal open for business
Aggregates trains carrying marine-dredged material (mainly sand and gravel) have begun operating from the Newhaven Freight Terminal, with the locomotives running round at the site of the soon-to-close Newhaven Marine station.
The new terminal was opened in a partnership between Network Rail and Brett Aggregates. DB
Cargo UK ran the first train to London on June 18.
The Department for Transport has confirmed that following a consultation, Newhaven Marine will formally close on September 26 (no trains have served it since 2006).
