Newhaven Freight Terminal open for business

Aggregates trains carrying marine-dredged material (mainly sand and gravel) have begun operating from the Newhaven Freight Terminal, with the locomotive­s running round at the site of the soon-to-close Newhaven Marine station.

The new terminal was opened in a partnershi­p between Network Rail and Brett Aggregates. DB

Cargo UK ran the first train to London on June 18.

The Department for Transport has confirmed that following a consultati­on, Newhaven Marine will formally close on September 26 (no trains have served it since 2006).
