More LNER Class 91s moved for storage at Doncaster
Fewer than half of the Class 91 fleet remains in traffic with LNER, after 91121 and 91126 Darlington Hippodrome were taken to Doncaster Belmont Yard for storage on June 27.
They join seven classmates at the site (91104/112/113/116/118/ 129/131). Two more are stored at Bounds Green (91103/132), while 91108 is at Wabtec Rail, Doncaster, where it has donated parts to classmates.
Additionally, Europhoenix has purchased 91117/120, which are also at Wabtec’s site undergoing modifications ahead of export to eastern Europe, while
Rail Operations Group leases 91122/128 for Midland Main Line electrification testing.
The latest ‘91s’ left their Bounds Green home with off-lease Mk 4 set BN07, destined for storage at Harry Needle Railroad Company’s Worksop site.
Those moved were Kitchen Buffet Standard (RSB) 10323, Open First (FO) 11280, 11407, Open First Disabled (FOD) 11307,
Open Standard End (TSOE) 12231, Open Standard Disabled (TSOD) 12329, Open Standard (TSO) 12405/411/489 and Driving Van Trailer (DVT) 82204.
As this issue of RAIL went to press, two more Mk 4 sets were to be withdrawn, leaving LNER with seven rakes. The remaining sets will, for the time being, be used on the Leeds and York routes.
The two sets being sent off-lease are BN05 and BN10. The latter features DVT 82205, which carries the Flying Scotswoman branding.
The coaches being sent offlease will be RSB 10326, FO 11219, 11405, FOD 11305, TSOE 12209, TSOD 12300, TSO 12486, 12520/522 and DVT 82210 which forms BN05 and RSB 10331, FO 11282, 11410, FOD 11310, TSOE 12214, TSOD 12305, TSO 12419/443/488 and DVT 82205.
