Former RIA Director General Jeremy Candfield dies
Former Railway Industry Association Director General Jeremy Candfield died on November 1, aged 67. He had been suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for several years.
Candfield joined RIA as Director General in 1998 and held the position until 2016, when his condition made it impossible to continue. During his tenure, he transformed RIA from a relatively small organisation into a body with more than 200 members, and with a powerful voice respected in the rail industry and government.
A former member of the RailReview Editorial Board ( RAIL’s quarterly business title), Candfield was renowned for his hard work and collaborative engagement.
His qualities of honesty, integrity and consistency were universally respected.
His colleague, former RIA Policy Director Peter Loosley, wrote: “Colleagues with whom I have been in touch, both ex-RIA and members, have been unanimous in describing Jeremy as an absolute gentleman who will be much missed. I owe him a lot, as do the collective RIA membership and the railway industry generally.
“Our deepest condolences go to his widow Uta, their children Sophie and Christopher, and their respective families.”
His funeral took place in midNovember in the Sevenoaks area.
