Carmont reopens

-

Passenger trains began running through Carmont on November 3, almost three months after the fatal accident that claimed the lives of three people.

ScotRail Driver Brett McCullough, Guard Donald Dinnie and passenger Christopher Stuchbury died on August 12 when the 0658 Aberdeen-Glasgow Queen Street struck a landslip ( RAIL 912).

Following extensive repairs to the railway and the surrounding area ( RAIL 917), ScotRail’s 0506 Aberdeen-Montrose (formed of 158704), was the first train to pass at 0533. The 0539 Dundee

Inverness (formed of 158738) was the first northbound service to pass at 0647.

LNER also ran trains through the site that day, while on November 4 the first northbound portion of the London Euston-Aberdeen ‘Highlander’ Caledonian Sleeper was able to run direct to Aberdeen.

The previous day, Direct Rail Services ran a route proving trip ahead of the return of its intermodal service to Aberdeen, while a staff train ran from Aberdeen-Laurencekirk-Aberdeen.

Investigations continue into the accident.
