Reversing Beeching

Howard Johnston, in his analysis of the Reversing Beeching bids ( RAIL

910), lists Barton-on-HumberCleethorpes as an upgrade in round two. The service upgrade is an extension of the SheffieldGainsborough Central service to Barton-on-Humber using the curve between Brocklesby and Ulceby, not used by passenger trains since 1967.

Our partner North Lincolnshire Council is leading on this project, which involves no capital costs and has high potential socio-economic benefits - not only for South Humberside but also for the towns of Brigg and Kirton in Lindsey, which have suffered a Saturdayonly parliamentary service for nearly 30 years.
