NR gains White Ribbon accreditation
Network Rail has been approved as a White Ribbon UK-accredited organisation, demonstrating its commitment to collective action to change behaviour and culture that leads to abuse or violence against women.
Since lockdown began at the end of March, reports of domestic abuse have risen, with Refuge reporting a 25% increase in calls and online requests. While domestic abuse affects all genders, evidence suggests women are disproportionately affected.
With thousands of men working in the rail industry and its supply chain, NR Director of Network Services Nick King believes the company can make a difference through information and education while also being able to offer safe spaces.
This follows operators’ extension of free train travel for survivors of domestic abuse until the end of March 2021.
