Other changes

Other late changes announced by the Department for Transport include:

■ Extra staff on duty at major stations, with additional British Transport Police deployed.

■ Work on the West Coast Main Line will be completed early on December 27, enabling services to run from 1000 instead of 1200.

■ Longer trains on Avanti West Coast England-Scotland and Liverpool services.

■ Additional Chiltern Railway services on December 27.

■ East Midlands Railway will run a full inter-city timetable over the holiday period.

■ London Overground will operate on Boxing Day for the first time.

■ Double the expected number of rail replacement buses between Bristol Parkway and Bristol Temple Meads

■ Additional bus replacement services between Basingstoke and Salisbury from December 27-January 3.
