Sustainability as a Key Priority

“Merseyrail has much to be proud of in the way that it approaches sustainability,” said the NRA judges.

“It’s absolutely clear that sustainability (especially in terms of community, supplier engagement and people) is embedded in Merseyrail’s business ethos, and it gave us examples of how previous initiatives have been developed further.”

The operator has focused on a number of schemes, including: partnerships with charities (including a domestic violence charity); youth sporting programmes; LGBTQI initiatives and a staff network; school liaison projects to promote safe and confident travel, which has reached 10,000 young people; and a new partnership with its suppliers, including Stadler, to support Everton Free School.
