Waging war on graffiti

-

Councillor Phil Davis wrote with passion, and not a little frustration, about his past efforts to engage Network Rail on tackling graffiti ( Open Access, RAIL 918).

Far from being a priority only in London, Network Rail’s ‘war on graffiti’ is being waged in Birmingham and surrounding areas, too.

In recent weeks, we have been using new airless spray guns to remove unsightly daubings at locations including Sandwell and Aston. Over Christmas, when trains aren’t running, we plan to clean up Moor Street sidings and approaches to Birmingham New Street, which are known graffiti hotspots.

I recognise the Snow Hill station location in the photograph shared by Cllr Davis. It’s on my list.

And not just because the 2022 Commonwealth Games are coming - but rather because I believe in giving our passengers a safe, clean, welcoming railway regardless of what’s in the calendar.

I look forward to fighting our war on graffiti side by side with Cllr Davis. Consider Network Rail engaged.

Dave Penney, Central Route Director, Network Rail
