TFGM awards Keolisamey a three-year contract extension for Metrolink
(KAM) has been awarded a three-year contract extension by Transport for Greater Manchester to continue operating and maintaining the Metrolink tram network.
KAM took over the contract to run Metrolink in July 2017 from Metrolink RATP Dev, with the original contract due to run until July this year. The extension will now see KAM retain responsibility for the tramway until at least July 2027. A statement issued by TFGM said that the extension has an increased emphasis on operational performance, together with more planned network improvements, while also committing more frontline staff to tackle fare evasion and antisocial behaviour.
Danny Vaughan, TFGM’S head of Metrolink, said: “Since coming on board, Keolisamey Metrolink has become an invaluable partner. “Together, we have shown that we are committed to enhancing the Metrolink service for the benefit of our customers, whether that’s investing in the network or delivering excellent levels of reliability and punctuality.
“There is still a lot of exciting work for us to do to deliver the best possible experience for our customers, and I am delighted that KAM will continue to be a part of this journey for the foreseeable future.” Managing director of Amey, Peter Anderson, said: “It has been a privilege to work with TFGM over the last seven years, delivering a more reliable, customer-centric service which transports millions of people safely around Greater Manchester.

“Using our combined expertise, along with investment in our data analytics capability and technology, we have implemented solutions which more effectively manage the Metrolink network. These have improved operational efficiency, enhanced maintenance regimes, and ensured an efficiently managed service for the local community.” Metrolink is now a key part of Greater Manchester’s recently introduced Bee Network, with a long-term vision for a Londonstyle integrated public transport system combining trams, buses, cycling and walking routes. Local rail services are also planned to be included within the network by 2030.
Metrolink is the largest second-generation tramway in the UK, covering a total of 64 miles and serving 99 tram stops over the eight-line network.
