- Reading Voluntary Action

READ Easy provides free, confidential, one to-one reading coaching for adults who struggle with reading, through a network of volunteer groups. They are looking to establish a group in Reading and are looking for a number of volunteers to help.

There are a variety of roles available including; Administrator, Treasurer, Safeguarding

Champion and Referrals Networker.

This is an opportunity to be part of a Read Easy group which are changing the lives of individual adults across the country by providing them with the support they need to learn to read.

Support and training will be provided by a Read Easy UK Regional Adviser.

■ Volunteer Driver Service need more Volunteer Drivers to cope with the demand for journeys in the Reading area.

Volunteer Drivers help people in the local community make vital medical appointments that they may otherwise miss.

You will need to have access to a car and hold a full UK Driving Licence. The role is flexible and you will just need to have a few spare hours each week.

Volunteers are reimbursed 45p per mile for their expenses starting from their door. This is a flexible way to help your community organised around your availability and preferences.

■ Reading Mencap are a local charity providing support for adults with a learning disability and their families.

They have an activity day service, clubs/activities, carers service and family advice service. They are looking for enthusiastic, proactive, patient, empathetic, caring volunteers to help us run their Performing Arts group.

Volunteers will be helping adults with a learning disability to enjoy and take part in, various themed performing arts sessions. Workshops cover drama, singing, poetry, dance, story writing, prop making, drumming and seeing plays at a local theatre.

The sessions run on two Thursdays a month, 7.30pm-9pm. This is a great opportunity to have fun while making a huge impact on a vulnerable person’s life.
