THIS MONTH we’ve been reading THE GIRL IN THE ICE (gritty Nordic noir, not some silly domestic drama, despite the title); WORLD GONE BY (Dennis Lehane does gruff gangsters in WW2); THE ICE STAR (Arctic action-adventure); VALERIAN (the collected sci-fi series); I’M TRAVELLING ALONE (another murdered Scandi child) and A CLIMATE OF FEAR (the idiosyncratic Commissaire Adamsberg returns to face… the French revolution??)
MEANWHILE AT THE MOVIES we endured LAND OF MINE (war is hell, part 428); romped through VALERIAN, THE HITMAN’S BODYGUARD, AMERICAN ASSASSIN and LOGAN LUCKY; wrapped up LUCIFER (which actually got quite good in Season 2), and kicked off more mayhem with PREACHER (which started Season 2 in strangely downbeat style). And was it just us, or was the recent Montalbano series a bit… mundane?
