WHO’S DONE WHAT

-

MAYDAY! MAYDAY! (That was a joke, by the way). As we go Beltane toward summer (that was another joke), Frank Westworth and Rowena Hoseason of the Cosmic Bike Company ride a Cornish Obby-oss while Chris Abrams of AT Graphics runs rings around the maypole, which means the good folks at Mortons Media Group Ltd must be Morris dancing. And you thought your life was strange…

THIS MONTH we’ve been reading SHARDS OF EARTH by Adrian Tchaikovsky (splendid starspanning space opera); THE BRASS VERDICT by Michael Connelly (cracking courtroom drama from the Lincoln Lawyer); WICKED PREY by John Sandford (police pursuit of armed robbers in LA); LITTLE SIBERIA by Antti Tuomainen (remarkable Finnish tale about a meteorite and a confused pastor and other unlikelies), ALL SYSTEMS RED and ARTIFICIAL CONDITION, both by Martha Wells (truly entertaining Scifi series starring the dryly humorous murderbot as the narrator. Excellent).

MEANWHILE AT THE MOVIES… MIDWAY turned out to be a not-too-terrible recreation of the battle in the Pacific. For comparison we tried TORA! TORA! TORA! which has the benefit of real ships and planes but it makes stately progress by modern standards. For Star Trek fans, the new PICARD is… an odd mix of fan faves (time travel! Guinan!) and ponderous dialogue. Meanwhile, S2 of THE BLACKLIST is keeping us on our toes and slightly baffled. All good things!
