Classic reds and nudes for autumn

You may be an eye person, but you can’t ignore your lips this season. If you won’t succumb to red (seen again on the catwalk as a classic colour for autumn), go for one of the many wonderful nudes around. Except don’t think of it as nude, rather as sculpting for lips. “Application is key. It’s got to look polished but effortless,” says MAC’S Terry Barber, who suggests applying from the bullet and using fingers to melt and shape. “It’s about achieving a subtle look that still enhances your mouth.” Lipstick lovers won’t shy away from scarlet, but that needs to look subtle, too. “Blurring the edges with an eyeshadow brush will create a feminine flush,” according to make-up master Val Garland – or just pat it on with your fingers for a low-key look.
