PREEN X LK BENNETT
LK Bennett has enlisted Justin
Thornton and Thea Bregazzi (above) of Preen for a new limited-edition line inspired by the work of Scottish architect and designer Charles Rennie Mackintosh.
How did the collaboration come about? LK Bennett approached us. We loved the idea of reaching a larger audience, and giving the LK Bennett customer a broader fashion offering. How did the work of Mackintosh inspire the collection?
We have a home in Walberswick in Suffolk, where Mackintosh spent some time during his career. The village is full of his sketches, and the village hall has wonderful references to his time there. We chose a few floral sketches such as Cactus Flower from 1915 and the Japonica pencil drawing from 1910. We based the collection’s
prints, graphic lines, and main colour scheme on these – the rich pinks, purples and blues are definitely reflected. What other artists have influenced you over the years?
Tracey Emin was an inspiration for our autumn/winter 2018 collection. Peter Saville’s work also continually inspires us, as does David Hockney’s.
