COULD VISUALISATION BE THE SECRET TO CAREER SUCCESS?
According to motivational speaker Carrie Green, vividly picturing your goals is essential to achieving success. Arielle Tchiprout finds out how it’s done
Imagining your perfect future and dreaming without limits – it might sound like the moral of a bedtime story, but daydreaming isn’t just for children. In fact, entrepreneur Carrie Green believes regularly visualising your goals is vital for a prosperous career and will help you lead an extraordinary life.
“Success is no accident,” Green says. “You don’t wake up one day and think, ‘How did this happen?’ You have to create success with so much intention, and that begins by knowing what you want to bring into your life.”
Dreaming big has clearly worked for the 32-year-old; after launching a successful online mobile unlocking business while still at university, she went on to create the Female Entrepreneur Association in 2011, a platform for businesswomen to share experiences and give career support, and last year, published her bestselling book,
She Means Business.
Green asserts that having a clear idea about what you want to achieve is fundamental to making it happen. “We’re constantly being held back by fears, worries and doubts,” Green says. “But if you imagine yourself achieving your goals enough, you’ll gradually condition yourself to believe they are possible.”
She recommends starting off with a 30-day challenge. Every day, set aside as much time as you can – it could just be while brushing your teeth – to vividly picture what you want to achieve. If you’re not sure what to focus on, write down aspirations on cards and put them in a jar, picking one out each day. They don’t have to be solely career-focused; visualise anything from getting a promotion, to increasing your social media following or, in Green’s case, meeting Oprah Winfrey.
“Close your eyes, take a deep breath and visualise having the thing you want to achieve as if it has already happened,” she suggests. The most important thing is to dream without limitations. “Think to yourself: this is my life, this is what I want to make happen, so I’m just going to go for it.”

And write it down, says kikki.k founder Kristina Karlsson
“Putting a dream in writing is the first step to achieving it. Once it’s down on paper, it’s committed and you’re on your way.”
