BODY POSITIVITY
I like my body. I have wide hips, low-slung boobs and a flat bottom – but I am strong enough to carry my kids, one on each hip, down our many stairs (our house is tall and narrow), I am healthy (touch wood) and I have figured out what suits me (nipped-in waists) and what doesn’t (empire lines). I’ve my mum to thank for my positive attitude. As an athlete, she was far more interested in strong than skinny (it’s a message I’m instilling in my own daughters, too). Despite all this, I still feel at my best when I’m toned and brimming with energy, so, with summer (aka swimsuit season), almost here, we bring you our body special on page 89. Its focus? To make the best of what you’ve got and stop comparing yourself to others. Sounds like a mantra for life.
Another woman with relentless positivity is our wonderful cover star Davina Mccall. On our photoshoot in Portugal she was as warm and vibrant as the Faro sunshine. She’s experienced some big changes in her life over the past few months (turning 50 and the much-publicised end of her marriage), but she tells me she’s never felt better – and I believe her. She’s such an incredible example of someone embracing – and acing – whatever the world throws at her. Laura Craik interviews her on page 38, and clearly loves her as much as I do. I hope you feel the same, too.
Talking of women we love, this month sees the final column from Rosie Green on page 34. I imagine you’ll be as sad as I am that she’s leaving Red – her warmth and wit is part of the magazine’s DNA.
But because change can be a good thing too, (she says optimistically, from her ‘hot desk’ at Hearst’s shiny new offices in Leicester Square), we are sending her off to pastures new with our maddest love, gratitude and best wishes. And we look forward to introducing you to our exciting new columnist next month…
