WITH AN OBSESSION FOR OILS, FACIALIST MICHAELLA BOLDER HAS A HOLISTIC AND HANDS-ON APPROACH TO HER ROUTINE.

-

I light a scented candle as soon as I step through the front door. Both Haeckels

Pluviophile Rain Candle, £50, and

SOH Melbourne Green House, £42, immediately make my stress levels drop. I don’t look at my phone after 8.30pm

and sip camomile or valerian tea all evening. If I don’t take care of myself, I can’t look after my clients. As a child, my eczema was so painful

I couldn’t sleep, so my mum sprinkled lavender oil on my pillow to help me relax. I still use it as I find the fragrance so comforting. I grow lavender at home,

too, and run my hands through the flowers before long car journeys.

Eczema is an ongoing problem, so I smother my hands in a petroleum-based balm in the evening, followed with something more fragrant from Clarins or L’occitane just before bed.

I’ve got six cleansers on the go. I like oil-based formulas that I can massage in. Then it’s on with The Ordinary Hyaluronic

Acid 2%, £5.90, for hydration or Pixi Glow

Tonic, £18, for gentle exfoliation. I let it absorb while I potter around the house. The last thing I do is a 15-minute facial

massage with an oil. If I’ve been working late or been out socialising, I might only do a couple of minutes, but I’d never skip it. I use my knuckles to add more pressure or my Yu Ling Jade Facial Roller, £18, (cultbeauty.co.uk) if my hands are tired. I have about 30 oils in my bathroom,

which I pick from depending on what my skin needs. Current favourites are Time Bomb Youth Juice Secret Oil, £16, Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil, £34, or Jason Vitamin E Lipid Treatment,

£8.49, which is super-soothing if my eczema has flared up.
