STAY AT THE ICEHOTEL & SEEK THE NORTHERN LIGHTS
Sleep in a bedroom made of ice and visit Abisko Mountain Station for the chance to see the aurora borealis
Nestled in a quiet village in Swedish Lapland, 120 miles north of the Arctic Circle, the breathtaking Icehotel is one of the world’s must-visit hotels. On this magical four-day trip, you will spend one night in a cosy sleeping bag on top of Arctic reindeer furs in one of the hotel’s unique ice rooms.
Created by ‘ice architects’ from all over the world, the rooms are made with ice from the frozen River Torne, with a double bed also sculpted from blocks of ice. Visitors often describe having some of the best nights’ sleep they’ve ever had in the bedrooms that remain at -5°C.
You will combine your Icehotel stay with a visit to Abisko National Park, which is consistently rated as one of the world’s best places for experiencing nature’s light show, the aurora borealis. Spending one night at Abisko Mountain Station, you will have plenty of opportunities to admire the magical Northern Lights, with the added bonus of stunning panoramic lake and mountain views.
On this trip, you’ll fly direct from London Heathrow to Kiruna, Sweden, with a total journey time of around three-and-a-half hours, rather than flying via Stockholm, which adds up to two-and-a-half hours to the journey.
Reasons to book EXPLORE ABISKO NATIONAL PARK
Framed by the Lapporten mountain valley, the national park is the ideal place to go walking or take pictures in a winter wonderland. You’ll take a chairlift up to the Aurora Sky Station, where the lack of light pollution greatly enhances your chances of spotting the Northern Lights. View them from the balcony, or watch from indoors, beside the cosy log fire.
OPTIONAL EXCURSIONS
With a range of activities available, you can be as active as you like. Relax in a sauna, learn winter survival skills, try your hand at ice sculpting or experience snowmobiling (supplements apply).
SAMPLE LOCAL CUISINE
One dinner is included on your four-day trip, but the Icehotel has two restaurants for you to enjoy, serving traditional Swedish food. During your stay at Abisko Mountain Station, you will receive a free upgrade for a four-course dinner worth £79pp at the Aurora Sky Station’s cosy restaurant***.
