ENJOY THE ULTIMATE Foodie experience IN THE ARCTIC WILDERNESS
On this unique four-day break, you’ll sleep in a room sculpted from ice, hunt for the Northern Lights and savour gourmet cuisine in Swedish Lapland
it sounds like something from Disney’s Frozen – at the Icehotel, in Jukkasjärvi, a peaceful village high above the Arctic Circle in Sweden, you can spend the night in a sparkling room carved entirely out of ice.
On this four-day winter adventure, exclusively for Red readers, you’ll enjoy one night in a Classic Ice Room, wrapped up in a cosy sleeping bag on top of reindeer furs, and one in a warm Kaamos Room. There will also be time to try exciting optional activities, including husky sledding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing.
Your final night in Swedish Lapland will be spent at the equally unique Camp Ripan in Kiruna, which has one of the region’s best spas as well as a gourmet restaurant. You’ll get a free pass for the Aurora Spa, and another highlight will be a culinary evening focused on the indigenous Sámi people’s traditional cuisine. Being so far north and away from light pollution, there’s also an excellent chance of spotting the mesmerising Northern Lights during this magical break, which can be taken on selected dates in February and March 2021.
Reasons to book
ICEHOTEL STAY Classic Ice Rooms in the Icehotel have a double bed carved from blocks of ice, but you can also upgrade to one of the spectacular Art or Deluxe Suites. The hotel is re-carved each winter from the frozen River Torne and even its chandeliers contain thousands of hand-cut ice crystals. You will spend one night in an
Ice Room and another in a warm Kaamos room.
FREE SPA PASS
The stylish Aurora Spa in Camp Ripan combines natural stone, wood and water to create an idyllic environment in which to unwind, and it has fabulous views. The therapeutic thermal experiences include warm indoor and outdoor pools, as well as aroma and mineral saunas.
FOODIE EXPERIENCE You’ll enjoy a unique evening at Camp Ripan discovering the culture of the Sámi people and tasting the region’s traditional food.
In a stunning private dining room with panoramic views, you’ll sample raw and foraged food and learn the story behind each dish. There are also two great restaurants at the Icehotel.
SEE THE NORTHERN LIGHTS Spending three nights in the ‘Aurora Zone’ means there’s a high chance you’ll see these lights dance across the night sky.
DIRECT FLIGHTS AND ARCTIC ACTIVITIES
You’ll fly to Kiruna in just three and a half hours, rather than travel via Stockholm, which takes nine hours, so there will be more time to try the adventurous Arctic activities† on offer, such as husky sledding, cross-country skiing, ice-sculpting, snowmobiling and reindeer sleigh rides.
