48 HOURS IN… LLANDUDNO

IN A JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA

-

Our whistle-stop tour of the North Wales town

GETTING THERE

While driving through central London in our Jeep Wrangler, we received a few quizzical looks – it is a very big car! But once we’d left the city and were gliding towards the Welsh hills, we couldn’t have been more pleased with our ride. The Jeep Wrangler drives smoothly and is so comfortable (perfect for a six-hour journey). And thanks to Apple Carplay integrating the sat nav, Siri and Spotify on one screen, my partner and I were both entertained and didn’t take a wrong turn once, meaning we arrived in Llandudno relaxed and ready for the weekend.

WHERE TO STAY

Bodysgallen Hall & Spa, five minutes’ drive from Llandudno’s seafront, is a gorgeous manor house that’s been around for 600 years. Inside, oak-panelled walls, fireplaces and bulging bookshelves make it feel both grand and cosy. The spacious, characterful rooms have views towards Snowdonia and also overlook the 200 acres of beautiful gardens, which we spent a good hour exploring. Double rooms start at £215 a night. Visit bodysgallen.com or call 01492 584466.

MUST VISIT

There’s so much to do in this corner of North Wales that you’re spoilt for choice. In Llandudno itself, we loved walking along the sweeping 19th-century promenade and mooching around the shops. The historic isle of Anglesey is a short car ride away, and you can stop by the town with the longest place name in Europe en route (known as Llanfairpwllgwyngyll for short). You can also explore the gorgeous Snowdonia National Park and either take the train up Mount Snowdon or climb it, depending on how brave you’re feeling.

FOOD AND DRINK

The restaurant in Bodysgallen Hall is a fine-dining dream, where I devoured a decadent meal of duck breast served with dauphinoise potatoes. In Llandudno itself, do visit the renowned restaurant and local favourite The Seahorse, which offers fresh and locally sourced fish with a great wine list to match (the-seahorse.co.uk).

THE CAR… JEEP WRANGLER SAHARA A few of our favourite things… max speed: 110; 0-62mph: 7.3 seconds; Parkview reversing camera, which made even the trickiest car parks a piece of cake; seat heating; Apple Carplay and Android Auto; blind spot monitoring; cruise control guiding us through motorway average speed checks. jeep.co.uk
