KEEP ON TRUCKING

-

In our February issue, Clover Stroud wrote beautifully about adjusting to change, even in the darkest times. ‘When it feels as if you’re travelling through more darkness than light,’ she wrote, ‘the trick is to keep going.’

This resonated with Emma Greaney, who got in touch. ‘I felt compelled to write to you as I have just read Reset Your Sat Nav by Clover Stroud, and it struck an almighty chord with me,’ she wrote. ‘I’m returning home to Dublin from Edinburgh for my beautiful mum’s funeral. She passed away after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer. I am consumed by grief and loss, which are made more difficult by the continued Covid restrictions. I bought your magazine as a distraction, but it’s given me far more than that. The way the writer describes how she navigated the many challenges and dark times in her life, from her own mother’s accident and move to a nursing home, to her divorce and the agony of her grief at the death of her sister, has really resonated with me at this time.

The way she talks about a desire to go backwards and return to happier experiences is almost exactly what I’m feeling at this very moment. But her ultimate decision to choose to keep going, to be the driver, keep putting one foot in front of the other and to “keep on trucking”, as she so simply puts it, has given me strength.

I’ve written my mum’s eulogy and plan to read it at the funeral tomorrow. The sentiment of this piece and the wise words will keep me going and help me get through this very difficult time with my family. So thank you for this. It has found me at just the right moment.’
