‘ Growing up, I would never have thought I’d end up in business with Disha. Our three-year age gap felt huge – as did our sibling rivalry at times – but here we are,’ says Trishna Daswaney, who founded Kohl Kreatives in 2016 and launched The 3ss3ntials brush collection designed to make it easier for those with mobility issues to apply makeup. Then, when the sisters started living together in London three years ago, Disha naturally started to become involved in the business and now ‘is integral to it… in hindsight, I couldn’t do this without her’, says Trishna. While Trishna is all about lateral creativity and immediacy, Disha is practical, plans ahead and manages the press. ‘We bring very different skills to the brand that make it the best it can be,’ says Disha. And this synergy, it seems, has been critical to Kohl Kreatives’ growth. ‘Now that we work and live together, things can happen quickly,’ says Trishna. ‘If I have an idea, I can go home and sound out Disha immediatel­y. Kohl Kreatives is not a nine-to-five – it’s a constant labour of love and collaborat­ion.’ Since the brand’s inception, every penny made from product sales goes into its charity, Kohl Kares, which provides free makeup workshops for those who are transition­ing between genders, recovering from cancer or suffer with motor disabiliti­es. Next on Trishna’s creative radar is a product inspired by Disha’s interest in spirituali­ty. ‘Well,’ says Trishna, ‘nobody has your best interests at heart like your siblings, right? No one has your back like your sister.’
