How to get there: The Mallaig-armadale ferry is memorable, but for riding thrills we’d take the A87. OK, and take the ferry back. How long for: At least two nights, but you could spend a week on the west coast. When to go: April to the end of October. How much: There’s a full range of accommodation, but expect to pay upwards of £75 a night for a posh B&B, nearer £100 for a hotel (though you will find cheaper beds on the mainland). There are plenty of good campsites, too. Food and drink prices are Uk-standard. What to pack: Insect repellent in summer, so midges don’t eat you in the evenings.
