So long, old Scout

It’s time to say a fond farewell to the Indian. It’s been a blast!

IT’S A SAD day, but one that had to come eventually. It’s time for the Indian Scout Sixty to be returned and, I’m sure, find its forever home with someone who will enjoy it just as much as I have. I’ve had a great time with the bike – my first experience of living with a cruiser has been a positive and eye-opening one.

There have been a few negatives: I had to have the clocks replaced, under warranty; and a new battery and horn have been fitted. I’d have liked a fuel gauge rather than just a light, and a tad more power (though I’m told this can be achieved with a new exhaust and mapping). There are so many ways to customise this bike, and I would have done more to modify it if it had been my own – but even as standard it’s right on point.

Some of the accessories I fitted last month haven’t made the grade for me, though. I was getting lots of buffeting with the mid-height screen – so while it kept a lot of the grime from hitting me, it gave me a headache. The Oxford muffs did exactly what they said on the box and really stopped the cold getting to my hands, but I just couldn’t get used to not being able to see the controls. I didn’t actually find any problems with the muffs fouling anything or being pushed back on to the levers, so it was just my own insecurity that meant they had to come off. However, the Indian panniers are fab and really useful, so have stayed.

Overall I really rate this bike and would definitely have it in my dream garage. It’s done everything I’ve asked of it and given me a really pleasant, fun, fuss-free year of riding.
