While protection is the main priority with any helmet, for many riders looks come a close second. There’s no point in having an aggressive-looking motorcycle if you’re going to wear a blandlooking helmet so if you really want to match your bike and stand out from the crowd, check out some of the more adventurous helmet manufacturers to find the look you’re after.

SPOILERS

Spoilers are becoming increasingly common and increasingly complex on helmets. They’re often developed in wind tunnels and their job is to channel windflow effectively so the helmet is more quiet and stable at speed.

WIND TUNNEL TESTING

Wind tunnel testing is expensive but it’s also the most effective way of discovering what works and what doesn’t when it comes to making a helmet both quiet and aerodynamic. Helmet spec sheets will usually state if a helmet has been tunnel-tested.

ANTI-ALLERGY

You can sweat a lot in helmets and with your skin constantly rubbing against the lining it’s easy to get irritations. If you’re susceptible to this, choose a helmet with an anti-allergenic (sometimes called hypoallergenic) lining.
