Getting going

RIDE has been something of an inspiration and driving force to me finally getting my bike license – and getting it has been a real journey. Early last year I decided to buy a Honda VFR800, even though I had no licence. After much reading I finally bought some gear. So I had the bike and the gear but still no idea!

My work takes me all over the UK and overseas and fitting in a Direct Access course near home (Inverness) was an absolute nightmare. Then in September, working near Bristol, I booked a week’s intensive course with Bristol Motorcycle Training Centre. There was one small problem: my gear was 500 miles north of me! I passed with only one minor on October 26. My first ride out was November 1 and since that day I have done just under 3000 miles. Dom Sharp
