Tony Beedham (Letters, April) asks a few questions. Why don’t bikes have foglights? You can buy front-facing ones as accessories and they’re popular on adventure bikes. Why don’t racers wear neck tubes? Racing is physically demanding and the last thing they need is a scarf trapping in the heat. Why isn’t the speed at full revs in top gear double the speed at half revs? Overcoming the increase in wind resistance as speeds rise requires a logarithmic increase in power, not the steady gains engines actually produce. Alec Jones
