THE RIDE VERDICT

-

KAWASAKI GOT IT right with the ZRX - the looks, the build quality, the handling and, most crucially, the genuine power to go with the musclebike looks. The earliest ones are old enough to be doing A-levels now but so long as they’ve been looked after, they’ll still have many years of good service left. You can do pretty much anything with a ZRX, from daily commuting to two-up touring, and still guarantee it’ll attract attention when it’s parked up. So, all good then, surely?

Well, not entirely. There is a bit of a problem with buying a used ZRX - finding one. You might think that because they sold pretty well and were available for eight years, that there’d be plenty about. And there are, it’s just that few owners want to sell them. At the time of writing, there was just one for sale on the MCN classified website and only six S models and three Rs on ebay. Even so, it pays not to jump at the first bike you see. The ZRX is one of those few bikes where age and mileage really make virtually no difference to value. It’s all about condition. Don’t pay extra for gaudy modifications either - apart from a decent exhaust or suspension, any deviation from standard is likely to make it worth less, not more.
