THE CLAIM “SDOC100 Corrosion Protectant seals metal components against the effects of harsh corrosion by displacing the moisture and lubricating with its active formula.
“Improved penetration even works in difficult to reach places. Forms a smart ‘self-healing’ transparent protective film that closes immediately again after being touched.”
THE REALITY It comes in a 300ml pressurised can with a straw nozzle as well as a wider spray nozzle, making it perfect for both small and large areas of application. However the price stings a little — the most expensive here. It goes on in a relatively thick coating which leaves little to be patted off, indicating it sticks well. This presumably forms the ‘self-healing’ layer.
The first week of exposure saw one or two very small areas of rust begin to form. In contrast to the other, thinner products, these were towards the edges of the curved bar. The week under the salt solution saw a couple of additional areas of corrosion form but as the test went on, these didn’t grow and no further spots of rust were evident.
As we got towards the end of the test, where product was applied over the top of the previous week’s, it began to attract dust and other foreign material. But in the real world, you’d be washing the bike off as you used it.
Overall, this was a good performance — rust was generally kept at bay, from forming initially and the few areas where it did form didn’t get any worse.
