The SHARK D-skwal 2 tops the charts

‘These lids play their part in the biking world’

THIS TEST PROVES that there are some great lids on the market for not a lot of money. The fact you can buy one that comes with an integrated sun visor, Pinlock, removable lining and the provision for an intercom system for less than £200 is remarkable. Some even have a SHARP rating surpassing lids that cost considerably more. So which of these eight is best?

In our test, the SHARK D-skwal came out on top as not only does it carry a premium name, it has the assurance of a four-star SHARP rating and a five-year warranty alongside a whole plethora of features. If you weren’t told, you would never guess it costs less than £200 and that is a huge credit to not only its design but also its styling and features, earning it a Best Buy award.

Next up is the LS2 Storm FF800 which, although a touch snug, once on felt and performed very well and earned a Recommended badge. Although they didn’t receive an award, the AGV K-3 SV and HJC i70 were also very impressive lids, even if they did have a few silly annoyances that dropped points and saw them sitting in third and fourth place respectively.

Overall, however, what really impressed us was the standard of all of the sub-£200 lids tested. None of them felt cheap to wear and aside from the occasional Pinlock insert that wasn’t included, none were lacking in features. So if your budget is tight, don’t be afraid of buying a sub-£200 lid; you actually get far more for your money than you may expect.
