Sinnis Terrain 380
Budget bike with touring aspirations
THREE-PIECE ALUMINIUM LUGGAGE and all, this parallel-twin adventurer costs less than five grand. It’s a Sinnis Terrain 380, which is a Chinese-made Zongshen rebadged and upgraded for the Brighton-based firm. The motor is based on Suzuki’s Inazuma 250, bored out to 378cc. Claimed power is 36bhp and top speed is 85mph-ish, but short gearing makes it busy and buzzy beyond 70mph. At urban speeds it pulls easily, gobbling quickly through the crisp six-speed gearbox.
There are impressive features: the colossal colour dash; both 12V and USB charging points; 105 litres of lockable storage; standard-fit crash bars and centrestand; and a whopping windscreen. And there are less-pleasing ones: basic brakes, suspension and tyres; a disappointing dipped beam; and valve-clearance checks every 4000 miles. It’s surprisingly spacious, with an 820mm-tall seat, a high handlebar and fair legroom. It’s surprisingly heavy too — with luggage fitted and tank brimmed, our scales show a startling 240kg.
Those hoping to head off-road may snort at that figure, along with the exposed oil filter and lack of handguards. Yes, there are clear shortcomings. But if your pace, intentions and expectations line up with what the Terrain 380 offers, few new bikes boast this much versatility for this little money.
