S1000R gets uprated
BMW has released a new S1000R, which is lighter and smarter. Taking the motor from the 2020 S1000XR, it packs 165bhp and 84lb·ft of torque rather than chasing the 200bhp target of some of its rivals. For people who fancy longer trips, fourth, fifth and sixth gears are taller for better fuel consumption and reduced noise.
The chassis is based on the latest S1000RR’S though, which contributes to the overall 6.5kg weight reduction, and features slightly sharper steering geometry.
Two models will be in dealers late spring: the base S1000R at
£12,055 and the up-spec’d S1000R Sport, with uprated electronics and semi-active suspension at £14,000.
