RIDE reader Richard Pearce did Route 66 on his Norton Commando

“I freighted my bike over and did the 66 as part of a North American charity ride. Route 66 is magical — at some points it felt like being in a dream and in a film at the same time. I headed from Chicago to LA on the Commando with my son on the back. We met some amazing people — and much of this was down to eating in family diners rather than Mcdonald’s or Taco Bell and I loved the kitsch Americana. Tracing 66 is hard work as there are times when you have jump off and on to I4 but I never felt threatened or in danger and a fuel stop was never more than 50 miles away.”
