What’s the best way to keep your visor clear — spray or Pinlock?

Pinlock vs Muc-off anti-fog spray to see which keeps mist away

THERE’S LITTLE WORSE when you’re riding than your visor misting up on the inside. A reduction in vision is clearly a massive safety issue but there are ways to deal with it. Typically, opening a chin vent (assuming it actually flows some air — some are useless) should help alleviate the problem but if you’re stuck in slow-moving traffic, a lack of airflow means no joy.

You could always crack your visor a little and undoubtedly, this will also help but if it’s freezing cold or chucking it down, you may not want a frozen or soaking-wet face.

Of course, almost all riders will know about Pinlock anti-fog inserts — many of today’s helmets carry the mounting posts on the visor for this system, that uses a lens on the inside of the visor to prevent it fogging.

While these are widely becoming the standard for preventing misting up, there are always some helmets that aren’t Pinlock ready, so what do you do then? Well, there are plenty of proprietary treatments available that purport to prevent the visor misting up once applied. So we felt it was time to put a Pinlock up against a treatment — in this case, from Muc-off — to see which works and what benefits they offer.
