Kawasaki ZZR1400

-

2006-2011 190bhp 114lb·ft 269kg 800mm seat 22-litre tank

When it comes to cheap speed, the ZZR1400 is by far the most accomplished hyperbike on the market, as it has continued to evolve and be developed by Kawasaki, where the Suzuki Hayabusa effectively stood still from 2008. The first generation uses the smaller 1352cc inline four (it grew to 1441cc in 2012) but that powerhouse of an engine still makes 190bhp with 114lb·ft of torque, so is hardly left lacking. For destroying miles, the ZZR is astounding and its huge power makes it very relaxing to ride. With neat handling and super smoothness, nothing comes close for the cash.

Three things to look for

The ZZR’S brakes are prone to wear and warping, so check all is well.

Radiators catch dirt and rot through, which is a big bill to replace.

The monocoque makes the 16,000mile valve-clearance check a costly service that is often skipped.

Improve it

Owners complain about the firm seat and the low screen. But both are easy to update.
