Kawasaki Z1000SX
USED BIKES GREAT-VALUE OTHER
Launched in 2011 at a time when everyone thought the sports-touring market was dead, the Z1000SX proved this theory wrong and has gone on to sell like hotcakes. Kawasaki’s formula of using a gutsy 1043cc inline four in a chassis with genuine sporting potential yet still a wonderfully relaxed ride and keen pricetag has rejuvenated the 19-litre tank
genre. Due to the fact it sold so well and been updated regularly, there are a lot of used examples out there, so prices are pleasingly competitive. If you still like the idea of a sportsbike but your back/neck/ wrists suggest otherwise and touring is on the cards, try an SX as it is far from a compromise in terms of its handling and performance yet is much more practical.
Three things to look for
Three-stage traction control arrived in the 2014 update.
If you want panniers, buy a bike with them already fitted to save cash.
ABS was only standard fitment in 2016; before, it was an option.
Improve it
Mirror stalk extenders help view behind; taller screen eases long rides and re-map can improve fuel economy.
