Yamaha Tracer 9 GT
YAMAHA TRACER 9 GT
114bhp 65lb·ft 220kg £TBC
The flagship technology trickledown is in full flow at Yamaha in 2021, as the Tracer 9 GT lands a full suite of electronic sophistication borrowed from the R1.
At the centre of the new bike, the now Euro5 inline triple is stroked to 890cc, increasing power to 117bhp with more torque lower in the rev range. It’s been relocated in a new frame and sat more upright to allow room for a lowered headstock, improving front-end feel. A longer swingarm pivots closer to the engine, giving more control over the shock. Semi-active KYB suspension as standard tops the chassis off — it all points to calming and refining the Yamaha’s handling dynamic.
R1-spec electronics include 6-axis traction control, slide control, antiwheelie and rider modes, shown via an unusual twin 3.5in TFT dash set-up. Other practicalities include heated grips and cruise control as standard.
Finally, the Tracer now has the stability and increased payload capacity to carry a pillion, panniers and a top box. Which makes the Tracer 9 GT a powerful all-rounder; no other bike offers so much as standard for the price.
