Yamaha XTZ1200ZE
WE DON’T NEED telling 2020 was a crazy year but the twin effects of the Covid pandemic and the introduction of Euro5-spec bikes in January 2021 mean dealers have stocks of unsold Euro4-spec 2020 bikes they need to shift, even as updated models are filling the showrooms ready for — hopefully — an exciting new riding season for everyone. And that means some great deals are available for the right bikes... but only while stocks last!
KTM 790 ADVENTURE SAVE £1500 95bhp 66lb·ft 209kg Price 12 months ago £11,299 Best dealer price £9799
Almost criminally underrated when it launched in 2018, the 790 Adventure and Adventure R kinda disappeared. Maybe the 790’s class-leading off-road prowess (which it was heavily marketed on) overshadowed its excellent road manners, willing motor and agile chassis. Maybe its target customer wasn’t so much ‘ready to race’ as ‘ready to tour’.
Maybe the stories of KTM niggles and build quality started to impact sales. Or maybe, with its novel side-slung fuel tanks, it wasn’t the prettiest bike. Either way, as it bows out to make way for the larger, more powerful and better-equipped 890 Adventure, at less than ten grand new, it’s worth a second glance.
YAMAHA XTZ1200ZE SAVE £2352 110bhp 86lb·ft 265kg List price £14,347
Best dealer price £11,995
Bowing out as a Euro4 model, Yamaha’s big adventure bike is a forgotten chunk of useful. The
1199cc parallel-twin is a solid, reliable, if modestly-endowed lump and it’s big, at 265kg. But its also comfy — the seat is big enough for two — and comes with a decent spec including electronic suspension adjustment, traction control and rider modes, and a 23-litre tank.
SUZUKI KATANA SAVE £3004 148bhp 80lb·ft 215kg List price £11,499
Best dealer price £8495
We knew the Katana was overpriced when it was launched in 2019. A GSX-S1000F in a frock, it was a grand extra for a styling job and a smaller fuel tank. But now, for around eight grand new, you’re talking GSX-R1000 K5-based motor making a shed-load of grunt with neutral, agile Suzuki handling. Just don’t tell people what you paid for it.
DUCATI MULTISTRADA 1260 ENDURO SAVE £2000 156bhp 94lb·ft 225kg (dry) List price £17,995
Best dealer price £15,995
When the Enduro-spec Multi was launched, the Multistrada concept made sense — this was the true GS rival, not the 17in-front road-version. The bigger 1260 Enduro is even better; colossal V-twin grunt, fluid civility and monstrous mile-eating with a 30-litre tank. The new V4 S Multi means the V-twin Enduro only has 12 months left. Get it now.
TRIUMPH TIGER 800 XCA SAVE £2705 94bhp 58lb·ft 208kg (dry) List price £12,700
Best dealer price £9995
Superseded by the Tiger 900 in January 2020, the Tiger 800 (in XCA premium off-road spec) is a different bike, but not necessarily a lesser one. The conventional inline triple is perfectly suited to road use and with comfort, range, reliability and Triumph’s blossoming reputation for build quality, a top-spec Tiger for under ten grand is stonking value.
