Q How much power does it really make?

-

Triumph’s headline claims are 165bhp and 163lb·ft of torque from the new 2458cc triple. However, not all that makes it to the rear Avon. Peak figures when tested on our dyno prove a bit lower, at 145bhp and 145lb·ft. They’re still stupendous numbers — that torque figure is the highest we’ve ever seen from any production road bike, and twice what a Ducati Panigale V2 makes. But the 12% loss from crank to rear wheel suggests the gearbox and shaft drive sap a chunk of the motor’s output.
