RIDE readers share their inside tips on riding in Shropshire ‘There’s a matrix of lanes here’ BILL CAVENY
“We do Shropshire quite often, staying at Buckatree Hall just outside Telford. There is a matrix of lanes between there and Church Stretton. Acton Burnell castle (a fortified manor house) is worth a look. Up Bur Way from Church Stretton is a great ride and back into lanes on the other side. We also enjoy a ride over to Barmouth from there.”
‘A really under-rated riding area’ NIGEL BRADSHAW
“Shropshire is a really under-rated riding area. Climbing up the steep Bur Way from Church Stretton, passing the hang glider launching area then descending the narrow, steep hill is a very interesting ride.”
‘It’s a great place to spend the day’ JASON CRITCHELL
“Much Wenlock is a great place to spend the day with the other half. The ruined priory and the Guildhall are both worth a visit, though the Guildhall is only open from April to October and Tea on the Square is a good cafe. There are some good roads around, too — the B4371 to Church Stretton is fun.”
