Totally waterproof with decent protection
Oxford Hinterland jacket £299.99 www.oxfordproducts.com
THE CLAIM “The subtle new Hinterland jacket employs Dry2dry Trilaminate materials which offer outstanding waterproofing, breathability, tear strength and abrasion resistance — the latter resulting in an impressive AA CE approval. Warmdry insulation and Polartec stretch fabrics take warmth to a new level, while Oxford’s new concept of Active Construction enables the jacket to move with you, expanding and contracting without the need for multiple external adjusters.”
THE REALITY The laminated waterproofing really works, laughing off torrential rain and stopping the jacket from soaking up water. It might not have storm cuffs but the simple Velcro wrist closures ensure an impenetrable fit over gloves. The removable thermal liner is snug, though there are warmer jackets. Overall construction feels sound for the money, and the tag for pinning the collar bag is a neat touch. Solid AA rating is reassuring, though shoulder and elbow armour is only CE Level-1 and back armour costs extra. Matching trousers are due to arrive in 2021.
