How we tested them

-

WARMTH We set each pair of gloves inside a freezer van with four thermocouples on a replica hand (to eliminate the effect of body heat) for a set period of time, with heating off, on low, medium then high settings and recorded temperatures. We then rode for a set period of time on a dual carriageway at 70mph in 9°C with the heating off, then on low, medium and high to assess the feel of the heating.

FIT AND COMFORT We assessed how each glove felt on. The relationship between finger and thumb length and width across the hand; how bulky the gloves felt, with and without the batteries in place; how the liner felt and if it was secure.

FEEL How the gloves affected using the bike’s controls and general connection with it.

CONFIDENCE The confidence the gloves inspired, based on their construction, their armour and their CE rating.

EASE OF USE We looked how easy the gloves’ controls were to use when we were on the move.

WATERPROOFING We dunked each pair in to a bucket of water (batteries removed) to assess water resistance. Not a representative test but any weakness would be found.

BATTERY BENCH TEST We bench tested all the gloves from fully-charged on maximum power alongside each other to see how long, in theory, the battery could last. We stopped the clock when they died completely.
