The cost to swap bikes
A budget price tag harms later residual values
Ben bought his 790 Duke as an ex-demo for £6400 and it is now worth about £5000 in the used market. After putting down a £2500 deposit, he took up a 24-month PCP plan at £31 a month with a final payment of £3754.16. So when the deal matures in November 2021, he will either need to hand the bike back or come up with the cash. If he were to trade it in after a year, he would have £874 left in the bike after clearing the finance for a deposit on a £10,399 890 Duke R which, if he topped up to £3750, would keep his monthly payment over three years to under £100, at £98.47 or £108.90 over two years on 9.9% APR. Ex-demo Rs are currently going for £9999 but as winter nears, this is likely to drop to closer to £9500 and as 2021 goes on, when the R is a year old, you can expect reductions in price or deals from KTM. Why? The 790 Duke is currently being offered for £1500 off RRP and it was a new model in 2018.
