The best way to spend money to improve Ducati’s classic naked bike

Bar-end mirrors from £100

“Unless you do the ‘funky chicken’ every time you want to look behind, all you will see in a Monster’s mirrors are your elbows. I fitted Rizoma bar-end mirrors, which look good and actually work,” says James.

Michelin Power 5 £284

The winner of RIDE’S 2021 sports road tyre test, the Power 5s should make any bike feel better thanks to their wonderful ride quality, sweet steering and more feel than a 1970s gameshow host. They should work especially well on the Monster too, making it feel more nimble and exciting though the bends. Best of all, they are effective from cold — and despite the sparse look of the tread, work well in the wet, too. We’d expect around 5000-6000 miles from a front and 3000-4000 miles from a rear on a torquey bike like the big-capacity V-twin.

Exhausts from £350

“The Termignonis are on the point of being too loud but I am loathe to fit the standard ones as I love the sound,” reckons James. Most owners go for Termis but there are loads of other options and styles out there to suit budget and taste.

Screen from £89

“The Monster is very exposed and a screen really does help ease with motorway miles, which can be a real pain in the neck. I now tend to ride mainly on A-roads so I’ve removed the Puig screen but can easily re-fit it if I need to.”
